Spanish Wine Guide
Practical service guidance that helps wine show its balance and aromas.
Temperature
- Sparkling wines: well chilled, but not frozen.
- Light whites and rosés: cool.
- Fuller whites: lightly chilled.
- Light reds: slightly cool.
- Structured reds: cool room temperature rather than a warm room.
- Fortified wines: serve according to style, from chilled Fino to less chilled oxidative wines.
Glassware
A clean, clear, tulip-shaped glass is more important than owning a different shape for every grape. Leave enough room to swirl and smell.
Decanting
Young, structured reds may benefit from air, while mature bottles may need gentle decanting to separate sediment. Delicate old wines can fade quickly, so decant with purpose rather than habit.
Storage After Opening
Refrigerate opened still wine and close it tightly. Sparkling-wine stoppers help preserve pressure. Fortified wines vary greatly in durability after opening, so follow the style and producer guidance.
Editorial note: This guide explains general wine concepts and does not endorse a specific bottle or producer. Wine is intended for adults of legal drinking age; please enjoy responsibly.
